Cqi Certification Of Q-grader
Greenwell Farms has been steadily improving its growing and processing techniques in its quest for the highest quality coffee possible. A big part of this quality program is the cupping program headed up by Chai Neo. Chai has recently received CQI certification of Q-Grader.
CQI is Coffee Quality Institute and it is an international nonprofit organization working internationally to improve the quality of coffee and the lives of the people who produce it. CQI developed the Q Coffee System to reinforce and uphold the standards of specialty coffee as defined by the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA), which has been setting quality standards within the coffee trade for 26 years. The Q Coffee System is internationally recognized and utilized as the primary instrument that supports SCAA standards.
Tom Greenwell and Chai Neo have set high goals for the Greenwell Farms cupping room. Some of the programs set for the 2014/15 coffee season include:
- Establish weekly classes for farmers interested in learning cupping techniques and the impacts of coffee defects on the cup.
- Developing an education program for the impact on a coffee cup of CBB and the importance of farmer’s CBB mitigation plans.
- Continue teaching Greenwell Farms Employees about the cupping process and the language of taste as it relates to our own products.
- Continue systematic cupping of varietal trials now on-going at Greenwell Farms.
