Episode 35: The Love Of Kona Coffee Farming

[00:00:05] Hello everyone, i’m Matt from Greenwell Farms. Next to me is our CEO Tom Greenwell. Morning, Tom.

[00:00:09] Good morning.

[00:00:10] It is February, 2026, and because Valentine’s Day is on everyone’s mind, we’re gonna talk a little bit about romance. Okay? Sounds good?

[00:00:19] Sounds great to me.

[00:00:21] I think last year I tortured you, talking about your marriage and we talked about your, your founder’s, wife. But, we’re gonna talk about a little bit different romance and it’s kind of. We hear people that come to the farm like, oh man, I’d love to be a Kona coffee farmer. I can live in the nature and eat fresh fruits, and I’m surrounded by coffee. Is that a realistic picture?

[00:00:44] Not really.

[00:00:46] Tell us the truth. Give us a bit of a reality check on this one.

[00:00:49] Well, I mean, if it was, it is, I mean. It is part of my love life.

[00:00:56] Mm-hmm. Sure.

[00:00:57] You know?

[00:00:57] Sure.

[00:00:58] Sometimes my wife says it might be my whole life, but, no, it’s, it’s, you know, it’s, it’s really, really, I wouldn’t call it romantic.

[00:01:13] Mm-hmm. Hard work.

[00:01:14] It’s hard work.

[00:01:15] Mm-hmm.

[00:01:15] I mean, it is. ’cause you’re fighting the elements of nature.

[00:01:19] Mm-hmm. Sure.

[00:01:21] And, yeah. I mean, it’s farming.

[00:01:26] It’s farming, and as you guys know, farming is not romantic. It’s hands in the dirt. It’s battling the enemies. It’s ups and downs. It’s, it’s all those things, right?

[00:01:36] Yeah, absolutely.

[00:01:37] But it’s not without its rewards.

[00:01:40] And you’re absolutely right there.

[00:01:42] Mm-hmm.

[00:01:43] I mean, the rewards is why we do it.

[00:01:45] Mm-hmm.

[00:01:45] Right? And it’s not a monetary reward, it’s just, you know. Coming through and pruning the trees back watching flower.

[00:01:56] Mm-hmm.

[00:01:56] You know, that beautiful flower.

[00:01:58] Mm-hmm.

[00:01:58] We get in February, March. And then those beautiful ripe red beans during the season, you know, and that’s what we do it

[00:02:08] Right. So for the right kind of person, it can be something that is a lifestyle that they can really enjoy and kind of cycle with the rhythms of the seasons, if it, you know.

[00:02:20] Yeah. It’s a, it’s what you call a lifestyle.

[00:02:23] Sure.

[00:02:23] It’s a, you know, way of life. You have to be dedicated.

[00:02:29] Gotcha. So if you are romantically considering getting Kona Coffee Farm. Just remember some reward, some hardship and I guess life is full of both of those, yeah?

[00:02:41] It is.

[00:02:42] Yeah.

[00:02:42] Just the way life is, right?

[00:02:45] Amazing.

[00:02:45] You’re married, you have rewards, you have ups and downs.

[00:02:49] Mm-hmm.

[00:02:49] And, but you fix it and continue on.

[00:02:54] Awesome. Well, on that note, we wish you all a happy Valentine’s Day and see you next month.

[00:03:00] Yeah, great.

[00:03:01] Thank you so much.

[00:03:01] Happy Valentine’s Day.

[00:03:02] Aloha.
